Bachmann is at it again: Shut up, you ignoramus!
Michele Bachmann is once again proving her dangerous ignorance about the HPV vaccine in pursuit of scoring political points in a hopeless bid for the Republican presidential nomination. In Iowa last night, Bachmann made an appearance at a public forum (1). A woman named Julie Weppler stood up and praised Bachmann for her previously demonstrated foolishness (2), stating:
“Michele, on behalf of myself and a lot of other mothers that have a child that’s sick from the Gardasil vaccine, I would like to thank you for the attention that you brought to it,” she said. “This is my daughter, Jessica, and she’s been sick for three years now from that vaccine.”
Bachmann replied:
“Well, I thank you for bringing it up,” Bachmann said. “Parents have to make that decision for their kids because it isn’t the schools that are going to follow up with Jessica. It isn’t the schools that live with Jessica every day. It’s Jessica who’s having to have her body live with the ravages of this vaccine.”
Ravages? Really, Michele? This despite the complete and utter lack of evidence that any of this young woman’s symptoms were caused by Gardasil. The safety and efficacy of this vaccine were discussed in a previous post here (3). I had hoped that perhaps Bachmann had realized her error and would just shut her pumpkin piehole about any medical matters, but in her desperation to cast aspersions on Rick Perry, she continues to cause major damage to public health, particularly to women who could be prevented from developing cancer. I simply cannot wrap my head around the idiocy of individuals who would turn their backs on the greatest cancer prevention success story of the modern era. I can deny it no longer: Bachmann is a disgusting, selfish creature who needs to bow out of this presidential campaign before she decides that cancer can be treated with colloidal silver.
